Youth action programs homes

YAPH has a mission of "creating a community of youth and young adults committed to taking responsibility for their own lives and for improving the larger community of East Harlem ". The model for working with young people that YAPH developed in East Harlem has since been cited as a youth development best practice and has also been replicated both nationally and internationally. The Youth Action YouthBuild YAYB program is part alternative high school and part job training and industry certification program for out of school, out of work, low income young adults or Opportunity Youth between the ages of years of age YAYB affords these young people a unique and comprehensive approach to workforce development, youth empowerment and high school equivalency attainment.

Our fulltime, 10 month program emphasizes academic and vocational training, leadership development, case management and community service. YouthBuild students are also enrolled in the AmeriCorps program where they commit to performing hours of community service in exchange for an educational scholarship.

April 15, I have been looking for awhile to get involed with a youth volunteer program. Although I grew up in a great home with a wonderful family back ground. I always seem to wonder what or how or who would I be if I didn't. I often see kids on the streets that come from broken homes and my heart goes out to them.

Sometimes I speak, just to start small talk, to find out how theirs live have been and how can I change the bad to good in their lives.
